How do I know if I have a case in immigration court?

1. Check your immigration documents to see if you have an A-number. An A-number is a 9-digit identification number assigned by immigration. Usually, if you have crossed the border into Mexico, you have an A-number. If you have one, check the immigration court system:

(a) At site enter your A-number at this site.

If you are in the court system, you will see your information, A-number, the date your case was entered into the court system (Docked date) and the court address. If you have a court date scheduled, that will also be listed as well as the judge's name.

If you are not found in the court system, it will say "No case found for this A-Number".

(b) By phone: +18008987180
  1. Press the number 1 2 times
  2. Enter A-Number
  3. Press the number 1
  • If you are in the court system, your last name and first name will be spelled.
  • If you are not found in the court system, you will hear "The A number information you entered did not match a record in the system or the case has not yet been filed with the immigration court".

c) In court: You may also call the specific court on this list and request information about your case from the clerk of the court.

2. Check your immigration papers to see if you received a Form I-862 Notice to Appear - Notice to Appear in Court. If you have this notice, it means the government has started or plans to start a case against you in immigration court.

3. If you were detained by immigration when you entered the United States at the border with Mexico, you probably have a case in immigration court.

4. If you arrived with a visa and applied for asylum with USCIS and were denied asylum, you may also have a case in immigration court.
