SSN without work permit
To receive food stamps, you must follow these steps:
1. While in quarantine, contact DSHS/HRA/DSS (also known as Welfare) and ask for food stamps.
2. To get food stamps or cash benefits, you must provide your SSN or a document from the Social Security Administration showing that you do not have an SSN. Ask DSHS/HRA/DSS to send you a formal request for a non-working SSN.
4. Take this form and contact the Social Security Administration to request a non-work SSN or a NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT SSN.
You will need the following documents
If an appointment cannot be made, an application may be mailed.

4. Take this form and contact the Social Security Administration to request a non-work SSN or a NOT VALID FOR EMPLOYMENT SSN.
You will need the following documents
- Proof of identity (passport, state ID, driver's license).
- Proof of age (passport, birth certificate).
- Proof of immigration status (Form I-94 or other documentation from DHS).
- Official request from DSHS/HRA/DSS for a non-work SSN for benefits.
If an appointment cannot be made, an application may be mailed.
